170 x 140 cm, Acrylic on canvasIn this work, Sabina Bockemühl transforms the motif of the cow into an almost psychedelic visual world. The palette is exaggerated, garish and fluorescent – with neon pink, lime green, turquoise and a rich, gleaming gold ground. The cow appears as a creature somewhere between pop icon, mascot and spiritual apparition. Despite the intense layering, the animal’s gaze remains clear and frontal – a still point amid a maelstrom of color. The forms appear deliberately flattened and distorted; pattern fragments and color gradients recall digital glitches or psychedelic posters of the 1960s. This cow is no longer a farm animal – it stands like a totem in an aesthetically boundless space. With this painting, Bockemühl breaks with traditional animal painting: the cow becomes a projection surface for contemporary visual cultures – between festival aesthetics, techno culture and consumer design. In art-historical terms, the work connects to Pop Art, psychedelic art and contemporary post-internet aesthetics. At the same time, it remains firmly anchored in Bockemühl’s oeuvre, which reconfigures familiar motifs with visual opulence and conceptual openness.
