130 x 98 cm, Mixed mediaIn this work, Devin Miles stages Paris as a myth between fashion, architecture and projection: the face of actress Romy Schneider forms the center of the composition – self-assured, direct, with a trace of melancholy. Surrounded by iconic buildings such as Notre-Dame, Sacré-Cœur, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, a multi-layered image of the city emerges, accentuated by the words “Treat me like a lady” and the Chanel logo. Two butterflies, one red and one white, form a counterpoint to the monumentality of the architecture. They stand for lightness, change and transience – motifs that also run through Romy Schneider’s life. The color scheme of blue, white and red quotes the French tricolor and gives the image a culturally charged yet stylized presence.
